Barbara & Leonard Adams
MARRIED JULY 16, 2016
Len and I met at a lounge in downtown Toronto, one night in April 2013. We joke that our eyes met across the crowd, but really it was above the crowd, seeing as we’re both so tall! As we were leaving the lounge that night, he asked me for my number, and promptly sent me a text that said “nice to finally meet you”. Even though I wondered if Len was just really good at pickup lines, when he asked me to go out with him the next day, I agreed. And as it turns out, we really hit it off. We found out that we lived in the same area of the City, which made it so easy for us to begin to spend a lot of time together. It was quite the whirlwind romance, and a lot of the fun getting to know each other while also enjoying our city.
Fast forward two and a half years: I was going to Anaheim for a work conference and decided to stay afterwards for the weekend. Len flew out to meet me on the last day of my conference, and we rented a car to explore the LA area for a couple of days. We spent our last night in Manhattan Beach, where we had dinner reservations at a trendy restaurant. It had been such a fun weekend, and I was thinking how nice it was to finish the adventure off with a great meal, by the beach! Little did I know that the weekend was about to get a whole lot better! The restaurant had a great vibe and was quite romantic, so after dinner we decided to stay a little while longer just to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. The next thing I knew, Len was beside me proposing, and the guy sitting at the table next to us was taking photos (Len had managed to let the server and the guy sitting next to us know that he was about to propose)! Of course I said yes – and I was on cloud nine for the rest of the evening!
Once we were back home and had a chance to have our new reality set in, it was time to make some plans. I had grown up in St. Marys and I loved the idea of getting married there, but I wasn’t sure where or how I could make it work. I had heard some really great things about the St. Marys Golf & Country Club, so it was the first venue on our list of places to visit (and the last)! We loved everything about it! We could get married outside with a beautiful view, and have our dinner and dance reception in the same location. The plan had already started coming together on the very first visit! Ashton (the Director of Special Events at SMGCC) was an added bonus; with her on our side, we had complete confidence that we could create the wedding of our dreams. She provided us will all the details, timelines, and vendor referrals we needed, so that we were able to plan our whole wedding while being based in Toronto.
Everything about our big day was even better than I could have imagined. It was really great to have worked with such a friendly, professional group of vendors, who we knew would pull everything together perfectly. We worked well with them and they work well together – and it was really nice to know that all the little details would be looked after, so that we could fully enjoy our day. Lanny and Jay from Lyric Flowers created all of our gorgeous flower arrangements, and Kim from Above and Beyond Event Design pulled the whole look together with breathtaking décor. For both our hair and makeup, my girls and I were looked after by Glo Hair Salon – we had such a fun time and it was a great start to the day! Sean from Lucid Musings Photography worked his artistic magic, capturing beautiful photos throughout the day. Since we had a lot of out of town guests staying at hotels, we used Cherrey Bus Lines to make sure everyone got to and from the wedding safely. Our DJ, Music Central Entertainment kept the dance floor full, right until the very end.
Something that was really important to both Len and I, was that everyone at our wedding had a great time. We had so many people travelling that hadn’t seen each other for a long time, and many that hadn’t even met before. Ashton and Shaina (the Maitre D’ at SMGCC) had everyone organized on the day of our wedding, and made sure that everything ran seamlessly. As a bride, being able to focus on the importance of day and not worry about timing and logistics is a pretty incredible feeling – and I’m grateful to the staff at St. Marys Golf & Country Club for allowing me this pleasure. We received so many incredible compliments from our guests about how perfect the day was and how delicious the meal was (thank you to Chef Jason for his great culinary skills). We have so many amazing memories from our wedding day, and we want to say a huge thank you to the team at SMGCC, and everyone else that was involved in making our day so special!
